As I sit and try and find answers to all the hardships we are facing at this time in our lives it is hard to look forward to all the wonderful things that the holiday season can bring. Taking the approach of taking one step and one day at a time is the only thing we can do. After the very trying day that we experienced today it has been most hard to find some inspiration to keep going and not throw in the towel. The worries about what we will do to make the up coming Christmas a memorable one for our wonderful daughter I received the following in an email. Not only is 1 Corinthians 13 my favourite Biblical scripture I found this "adaption" to fill my heart with hope and give me the reminder that I needed most that it is not the material things that my dear sweet Belle will remember, it is the Traditions that we have made sure we carry on despite everything and the time we have spent teaching her what the season of Christmas is really about that we will remember 20 years from now and with any luck she will carry on with her own children some day.
So I invite you even if you are not religious to take a minute and read this little reminder and take a moment to look at what you are sharing with your family this Christmas season.
A Christmas Adaptation of
1 Corinthians 13
1 Corinthians 13
If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights, and shiny glass balls but do not show love to my family, I'm just another decorator.
If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals, and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime but do not show love to my family, I'm just another cook.
If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home, and give all that I have to charity but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing.
If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties, and sing in the choir's cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.
Love stops the cooking to hug the child. Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband. Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love doesn't envy another's home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens. Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way. Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give in return but rejoices in giving to those who can't.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
Merry Christmas
